Sunday chuckles

First, I have to share this here. This, to me, is tear-streaming-laugh-out-loud FUNNY:

Then Jurgis sent this to me. I think at least a couple of my contacts here will appreciate it ; )

This morning I went to sign my four dogs up for welfare.

At first the lady said, "Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare".

So I explained to her that my dogs are mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, can't speak English and have no clue who their daddies are.

They expect me to feed them, provide them with housing and medical care, and feel guilty because they are dogs.

So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify.

My dogs get their first checks Friday.
Disclaimer: (why do I feel I need one anyway?) The joke above is not aimed at anyone on welfare. I have seen first-hand both ends of the welfare spectrum... the deserving and the most-definitely-not deserving. I thought it was funny. So there!

Besides, I needed the humour. I've been stressing and fussing all day about lesson plans for a very, very, very unpleasant class : (   This is one soul-destroying class. One of us has to give... and I suspect it will be me.

I'm off to do Katey and Riete's quiz and find more funny videos to watch... or perhaps I should give some attention to those lessons.

Procrastination won out!

  1. I'm sure I don't get it as I'm meant to get it, but the video clip was funny anyway! I enjoyed it.

I'm supposed to be working on photo editing right now too. Blogging (reading, anyway) has won out.

    Long live procrastination!

  2. Sandy, I think to really appreciate it, you'd have to 'get' the colloquialisms and this video is one long colloquialism culminating in the ever-useful 'Voetsek', which is 100% untranslatable, but in short, means 'Get lost' (what she says to the UFO when she 'finds her voice').

I really, really need to prepare those lessons, but the whole exercise is filled with dread.

  5. Grrrr, left a comment here but it's not shown up.
Love the ad. I spent the afternoon looking at Nando's ads. Look up the pole dancing one o.O Bet that got the blue rinse brigade in an uproar!
Can you not tell them it's Medieval day and tie them all up at a stake and throw eggs and tomatoes at them (Kippy has some if you need them) Good luck Skattebol!

  7. Bert, who?

Katey, wish I could... I sooo wish I could. As for the blue rinse brigade, they've surely given up by now!

Kippy, don't worry, your tomatoes are quite safe with Dante ; )

Katey, figured as much : )

  9. I love the advert! It is the humour and accents that I think us expats miss so much just as much as we miss our families, old friends and country! I have been blessed with Katey's Nandos add and now this one! What a great way to wake up!!!! :-)))

  10. The disclaimer is due to the ever-present Word Police. It was funny, I chuckled.

  11. I could not see the video but I loved the joke, so true and I wish I had thought of it... and it has kept me chuckling but I am not brave enough to send it on - at times I have been the recipient of welfare, so know Welfare Queues and who stands in them...and we live in a country where it is a touchy subject ( we are all so PC now ) and turn our eyes away from how many of our indigenous people are 2,3,even 4 generations of folk who have no intention of ever considering employment.

  12. That's a funny ad, and I listened to it several times just for the accents!
Sadly, there can be much truth in the welfare joke.
