  3. It depends here. Most of the time it's easy to get them off ... and like Kat, I peel my fruit too.

  5. Totally, Deb!

Kat, most of the nutrition is in the skin. Ok, and the pesticides, but that's another subject entirely.

Riete, you obviously don't live in Brazil LOL I was just trying to slice a small melon. The sticker was huge... I hate having to slice through it, so I peeled it off and had to handle the sticky gum left behind.

    Absolutely, Kippy!

  6. There is a vegetable wash (grapefruit oil based) that does a good job of removing the wax, pesticide residue and gummy stuff. . .IF you can find it!

  7. We have been buying "Cuties" which are mini oranges for snacks for the kids. We recently discovered that Charlie has been collecting all the stickers and placing them in rows at his table setting.

  8. I hear that washing the fruit in kerosene will remove the gummy residue. Unfortunately it tends to change the taste of the fruit.

  12. I hate those little stickers too, but only if you buy fruit loose do they do it, here they tend to pack fruits in 4's or 6's, so they are clingwrapped in cute little trays with indentations, I keep them as they are handy for freezing bone meal for the birds.

  14. Oh, I too hate stickers on fruits which do not come off easily and leave this *yuck* residue. The other thing which often bugs me is wax. Waxed apples. How awful is that? And to get rid of wax one has to either wash fruit with some rather hot water and scrub it - like REALLY scrub, either peel the fruit. And I don't like peeled apples at all :(

  15. I usually peel fruit, so it doesn't bother me. Anyhow, it's one of those things I find stupid and unnecessary.

  16. Do you remember the purple spanspek writing on the grapefruit at home? We knew one family who used to give their boys half a grapefruit every morning for breakfast but the Mom would have to rub off the purple writing with vim so as not to have fighting between the brothers every morning! o.O
