My nemesis

For the past few days, I've spent most of my time at home in bed, flat on my back. I don't usually give in to pain, but boy, this was pain. Ugh! I don't do painkillers. One regular otc paracetamol makes me woozy and knocks me out. I was popping them like candies. Heartburn much? Yuck! And pain. Ooh my poor back!

The rain left the pavements on my road home very slimy and thick with moss. This photo was taken after a couple of days of no rain. The slime strip was way wider. It's on the edge of a major road that takes a lot of trucks, so walking in the road wasn't a great option.

One foot hit the slick and I was doing the splits. For once, I managed to stay upright though, but paid for it with a week's worth of feeling sorry for myself. It didn't help that we have a dogsticle course in the house and the cat has taken to lying across my path in the dark. She's lucky to still be alive. Every time I felt my back was doing better, I'd trip over one of them.

Today, I can finally sit at the computer without self-pitying whimpers. I even did the laundry. Go me!

Oh... and it's hot. Have I mentioned that yet?

  1. nothing like a put out back to really put you out...flat on your back!!

cats need to be velcro'd to the wall during these times

Feel better soon...(Im doing laundry too if thats any consolation!?)

  4. Not any more, thankfully. Sneezing does though. For some reason, I'm sneezing a lot today. Maybe it's the cat's revenge.

  5. Whew! That's some rough business! A hurt back can make the simplest things so hard to do. Last time I hurt my back, I kinda got stuck on the toilet...no really, its kinda funny now, but not at the time! I still am not sure which hurt worse...my back or my tattered dignity!

  6. Deb, this past week, the toilet became a special challenge... that and washing my feet. I gave up on shoes, getting hubby to do that and no, I didn't feel in the least Cinderella'ish. I don't do helplessness very well at all, I'm afraid. I can totally understand the tattered dignity part.

  7. Seems like you have a bit of high humidity there.....?

  8. Ouch! Glad you are getting better but I wince at thinking about the fall you took and the pain.

  9. Just a tad, Bert... not that you'd notice ; )

Cheryl, I wince thinking about it, but I'm no stranger to falls. I'm just grateful that I didn't go down into the slime completely. That would have been nasty.

  10. Sorry to hear about the pain, happy to hear about the improvement. Glad you did not smack your head or break something. Your mind and your feet in different places? Shall I duck?

  11. My mind and my feet often go in different directions, Theo ; ) Strangely, I have always fallen a lot, but I never seem to do myself any serious injury.... must be the gallons of milk I consumed as a child. Strong bones are a good thing!

  12. Augh, I'm sorry. :( And the back is the worst! You can't do anything with that messed up. I'm glad you're starting to feel better.

  13. shame man , sorry to hear about that. A sore back is a killer, you cannot do anything about it. I have to be so very careful with mine, all the years of horseriding and showjumping and falling off has caught up with me. That sounded like a very nasty fall. Can relate to the obstacle course, with 3 cats, 2 dogs and a Hadeda, there is always someone to fall over here too. Nasty slimy pathway, eick ! I once slipped on a wet tile by the bird cages and fell flat on my arse. Couldn't sit for 2 weeks, I had hurt my coxis. Pain pain pain. Hope you get better quick quick. Any sign of the envelopes with your papers yet?????????????

  16. Ooooh, I am so sorry, I am so sympathetic as i am laid up so much since my hip surgery, I hate feeling so infirm :-( I don't like the hangover feeling from the meds but I tell you, when they do their job it is totally worth it. DO NOT push getting back to Full-Tint running, as you know, it set me back! Take good care of you and let Jurgis tend to life and baby you a little. Don't push it! Gentle hugs!

  17. Kippy, it hurts again today. I think I must have slept funny. This is no longer very entertaining. Tomorrow's a long work day with even longer bus rides. Blah! And it's hot.... have I mentioned that yet? *laugh*

Marianne, ouch! I've done the falling on my rump deal more times than I can remember, though I tend to fall forward, so my knees are wrecked. Wish I could fall backward. I have plenty of padding there. How quickly does a hadeda move when you trip over it? ; ) Oooh! The one envelope papers have arrived! I meant to blog them. Didn't you get my email? I'm estatic, of course... it is sooo much more than I expected and wonderful to hold in my grubby paws *huge grins*

Thanks Kerry... feeling a little tender today, but hopefully by tomorrow I'll be more mobile.

    Heather, that's mean! Eish!

Marty, I'd like to bet that my aching and whining doesn't have a patch on what you're going through. I had to laugh at the idea of Jurgis tending to life and babying me ; ) Not very likely. It's more a case of me ignoring life that is going on around me. Tomorrow I'm getting back into the fray. I should be able to give a detailed account of every crack and pothole in the road by the end of the day : ) You take care now. You have some serious healing to be done.

Eh wena... dis Eina! : )

  18. Tint, I don't envy you one bit. Other than my knee (for which I was very very drugged up), I have never been in more frustrating pain than when I sprained my spinal muscle. :( All I CAN tell you is that if it's muscular, if you can manage some pilates-type stretches, they hurt like a bitch when you're doing them, but they often help me, in the long run.

    Good luck, Tint!

  19. Kippy, you know, I've been wondering if it isn't a pulled muscle and not a pinched nerve. It's not behaving like a pinched nerve. I'm not sure which pilates stretches I'd do. Wish you were around to help.

  20. I wish I was, too. At the very least I'd make you laugh it out. ;)

Even a yoga move, the cat/cow? I don't know. When I pull mine, the best thing for me is to lay on my back on the bed and let my top 1/3 of my body hang off the end. It hurts like hell, but always stretches it for me. Another that helps is to lay on my back with my butt and legs up against a wall, then bend my knees and walk them down the wall, sometimes pulling them in toward my chest (almost moving toward a headstand). But y'know, I'm not saying you SHOULD try this, because if it's a pinched nerve it might make it worse! I'm just saying what helps me. :)

  21. Hm... I can try the second one. Our bed is right on the floor, so the first one wouldn't work. I miss having Miss Giggles around to do exercise with. It was so much more entertaining than attempting it on my own.

  22. I know that pain well. I had back problems for a 2 yr span not too long ago. It is the worst...everything you do influences the back muscles which triggers the scream. Ugh. I hope it goes away soon. Maybe you should rest it some more instead of trying to work tomorrow? I never listened to that advice. Hugs.
