First things

This photo was taken of the pond at the bank where I teach. I thought the bottle was noteworthy. It was a beautiful day!

Kat did this. I'm copying. I have actually had a lot happening these past two weeks. As I think of writing one thing, a new event takes over, so the first only gets remembered later and seems stale. I may still try to blog it, but then, it may remain a blank period. I'll see.

Ok, so Firsts...

1. Who was your FIRST prom date?
We didn't have proms, but we did have a boarding school dance once every term. My first dance, there was no date. It was a free-for-all. The second, I had a blind date. He was... um... not exactly my cup of tea (to put it mildly). I *think* his name was John. I looked totally and utterly bored in all the photos. I mean... really bored.

2. Do you still talk to your FIRST love?

3. What was your first alcoholic drink?
Wine - My grandparents believed in letting us try things like alcohol under supervision. We had a glass of wine on Wednesdays with supper and with Sunday lunch at the restaurant... in proper wine glasses, not kiddies glasses.

4. What was your FIRST job?
Part time during school holidays - I worked as assistant to the chief of Social work for our district. Sounds glorified, but all I did was sort files and cases. It was a dusty, heartbreaking job, but I was in heaven.

5. What was your FIRST car?
I never owned a car. Our first car was a Toyota corolla hatchback we called 'old faithful' for good reason.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?
No one texts me unless it's to cancel a class. So far, nothing, thankfully.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?
Someone I don't know yet who lives in Wales.

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?
Miss Shapiro who became Mrs Mitten in during my first grade. She wore teensy minis... and was terrified of mice.  A mouse ran through the classroom one day. She was sweet though.

9. Where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?
To Johannesburg.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?
Winnie, though she has since changed her name. I think being called Winnie the Pooh finally got to her. We are in contact, though we very seldom communicate.

11. Where was your FIRST sleep over?
At my mom's. I was terrified. There was a huge spider in my room and the room was an unaccustomed dark. At home, I had a veranda light outside my window.

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?
Specs. Oh wait... person. That would be Jurgis. The only other human here.

13. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?
I've never been *in* a wedding besides my own. In fact, I've been to three weddings.

14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?
I spent ages trying to get my internet to work, then put laundry on to wash while I waited for a reboot and put the kettle on.

15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?
4 Jacks and a Jill at the Port Elizabeth Feathermarket Hall. Now I'm really dating myself. Most people have never heard of them.

16. What was the FIRST record/tape/CD you bought?
It would be the 4 Jacks and a Jill record

17. FIRST hospitalization?
Tonsils - age 3

18. FIRST foreign country you've been to?
Mozambique by cruise liner... looong looong ago

19. FIRST movie you remember seeing?
The Sound of Music

20. When was your FIRST detention?
Standard 6 (Grade 8) for refusing to do afternoon sports because I would get home too late to do homework.

21. What did you do with your FIRST paycheck?
Paid the rent, bills, groceries, etc. My gran was a pensioner... my earnings were needed.

22. Your FIRST social networking site?
Yahoo groups, then Delphi and MSN groups, after which I graduated to blogging on 360.

23. Who FIRST invited you to Multiply?
No one. I discovered Multiply by randomly surfing. My account here was already a good few months old when 360 migrated.

  1. 3. I feel a little better about having wine and gingerale with my Uncle. I do recall the headache I had shortly after drinking it and wondering why anyone would want to do that again!! haha.

    7. Mysterious. Did you dream of someone you haven't met yet?? I did that once. The result was not a good one.

    23. Wow! Even if I had thought to surf for sites, which I never did, I doubt I would have signed up. I'm so bad with new things on the internet.

I know you a little better now!

  2. I never had headaches with the wine, thankfully. To this day, I love a glass (or two) of wine.

Mysterious, yes. I don't want to give all the details yet, but this one is definitely good.

I sign up for all social networking sites and forums I can. It's my way of making sure I keep my user name to myself. I'm greedy like that ; )

  3. laughing...never thought of that!!

I love wine now. At 12, no. Which is a good thing.

  4. This is a post that got me into quite a lot of hot water back on 360:

Yep... not that anyone would have any use for my username, but if you Google it, you'll only find me, scattered all over the www.

  5. Did people give you a hard time? I agree with you on this one. Actually, faced with the possibility of my kids sneaking alcohol or going to parties and getting killed on the way home-----my plan was they could do it at home. And that was ALL the kids friends too. With permission from their parents, they had their parties at my house. I'd come home from work and find $5 on the fridge with a note "Malibu" and I knew it was from Shannon, that's what she liked. Or wine coolers. Or beer. I guess I could have gotten into serious trouble nowadays. But this was with parental permission. Nobody left. Nobody OD'd or had an accident. It was safe. Most of these kids don't do anything now. No drugs, all great mothers and fathers. So, maybe my plan worked.

  6. oh, and I should mention they were all over 16 or 17 and friends that had been growing up with my kids their whole lives.

  7. Fab pic! If I get time this week I will copy it. That's if I survive a showdown with someone's granny who claims my report was full of spelling mistakes and repetition. There's major bloggage there! Love your answers. Trying not to laugh about 4 Jacks though. Snigger!

  8. excellent firsts!!! I may snag it soon ;o) These are sometimes easier than coming up with "real" blogs, aren't they?

Though yanno, the first thing I did this morning was open my eyes... ;o)

  9. Nice firsts!

    Noteworthy...was there a note inside? :D

  10. I love the picture on top, Tint!

  11. I love the bottle picture. At first I thought is was a reflection of something in the sky. Glad you revealed what it is.

  12. Nice list of firsts! My imagination is definitely down today ... is that a bottle in that photo?

  13. I agree, that is the way to do it. We did the same with ours. The bar is open at Family Dinner, they had one or two drinks tops, that way they were never curious and had to sneak out and try it. Now they seldom have a drink except for a get together and I get ripped about my 1/2 bottle of red wine at night. Good for my cholesterol !

  14. now we know a bit more. Thank you for sharing.

  15. Kat, yes, I was given a rather hard time about it back then and I think my plan worked too :)

Katey, ack... showdown with pestering grannies? Yuck. I hope it went well. On the other hand, for sniggering at my 4 J & a Jill... I hope she gave you heck! Hmph! Bet you didn't know who I was referring to... spring chicken! =Þ

Jaime, absolutely! *grins* You opened your eyes? It takes quite a bit of activity for me before my eyes actually open.

    Sandy... uh... ?

    Thanks Marty!

Bert, it was enough to make me backtrack for a second look. The water was so still and the sky so clear.

Riete, yes, definitely a bottle :)

That's just it, Marianne... experimenting in a safe haven and removing the novelty which leads them to mischief with unknowns in unknown places.

  16. my favourite in the 70's here. They were on TV the other day, on Pasella , I think it was. "Jill" has aged really well. She looks super and they are planning on doing a return record I heard.

Thank you for stopping by! Do leave a note, so I know you were here and can visit you too :)
